The Parliament of World Religions had a long-lasting impact on American society. The presentations by the four delegates showcased here, and others, helped to both inform the American public and legitimize Eastern religions. The Parliament sowed the seed in the public consciousness of the breadth and depth of these rich traditions that are a living and vital part of much of the world’s population and heritage.

The presentation of these Eastern religions at the Parliament led over the long term to the spread of institutions and individuals who brought these beliefs and practices into the twentieth century and beyond.
